B. D. Somani’s (Institute for Art and Fashion Technology) yet again hosted its prestige brand fashion event and awards night, “14thannual Silhouettes Vintage Vogue 2011” at Shri Shanmukhananda Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Auditorium.
Fashion Big Shots Mr. Hemant Trivedi and Ms. Nicole Faria (Femina Miss India & Miss Earth 2010) came as chief guests to add a spark to the show. Meher Castelino, Shaina N.C, Ms. Sangita Chudiwala, Mr. Amit Goyal and Mr. Rahul Mehta accompanied them as the guests of honor. Healthy names in the fashion industry with designers like Ms. Arshiya Fakih, Ms. Kavita Durazi, Ms. Tina Kuwajerawala, Ms. Preeti Jhawar, Mr. Vikram Phadnis, Ms. Meher Castelino (Fashion Columnist) were picked to judge the event considering their dominance over the sector. Models like Candice Pinto, Aalecia Raut, Dipti, Sucheta Sharma, Hemangi, Rhea, and Shamita & Simran set the ramp on fire showcasing their outrageous fame sides. The remarkable show was choreographed by Anu Ahuja and was scripted and presented by Hugo D’souza.
With a spirit of social cause to recycle the waste clothes and donate to the organizations, something new and creative was seen at the event. The fashion network came with noble intentions inspired by the creativity and imagination of great people to give to the society what they deserve.
While living through the fashion hungry society, the alumnus also realized that it is the time that we should live through a fashion conscious society. With fashion industry growing at a burgeoning speed, there are varied hazards that threaten this rise, primarily the wastage of fabrics and garments, unused stock, rejected fabrics and other materials. To combat these issues the fashion forever unites gather for a truly noble gesture that will surely benefit the fashion world. The fashion alumnus of B.D. Somani recycled old clothes contributed by the students and donated it to the mother Teresa Society, Mumbai at Silhouettes 2011. The very charming Nicole Faria handed over the garments to the foundation. While this is their way of exhibiting prolific social causes they also urge one and all associated with the fashion industry to take a serious note on the urban decay affecting the earth and be part of this good cause.
The event was concluded by B. D. Somani requesting every exporter, garment business owner, trader, manufacturer and designer to contribute all their wastage to the B.D. Somani alumnus and do their bit of making this society a better habitat to live in, making sure that all the wastage will be recycled into wearable garments and will be donated to charitable organisations.
A wonderful event to be a part of that promised “next year would surely be looked forward by a lot more fashion biggies.”
