Movie Review: Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi

The Parsis of Bollywood are back with yet another “Nice but nothing spectacular” movie.

All I want to say is that there is no ultra-glamorous, stylish heroine or a superstar hero. Moreover, there are only one or two songs, which will stick with you for some time. However, there’s nothing you can talk about for days to come.

The movie revolves around the characters of Shirin and Farhad, two not-very-young kind of people who fall in love and try to tackle the situation with a smile, humor and yes a little bit of discord. The movie has its moments and is surely going to put a smile across your face, but hey, don’t expect a lot or you’ll be left disappointed. However, I particularly liked few scenes, including the ending when Farhad professes his love for Shirin in front of others. It was a scene that stirred up my emotional side.

The movie reminds you of the yesteryears when the movies were more about the common people, instead of the ones sitting at the perch of stardom. Even though this movie is not as great as Khatta Meeta or Baaton Baaton mein, it’ll still be successful enough to tickle your senses. The story is devoid of any kind of action, sex or over the top drama. It is just those special moments of life, presented in a fresh way.

In the acting department, you’ll be seeing the evergreen performer Boman Irani, who did his part really well. However, the surprise package is Farah Khan, yes she can act and act well.

The story of Shirin Farhad Ki Toh Nikal Padi, starts with Farhad Pastakia, played by Boman Irani. He is a 45-year old salesman in a ladies undergarment store and stays with his mother as well as a grandmother. They’re always trying to get him married, but turns out that his profession isn’t something that goes down well with the prospects until Shirin Fugawala, Farah Khan, enters his life. Shirin plays an outspoken, confident woman who gets into trouble with Farhad’s mother over water tank demolition, while on the other hand she and Farhad gets on with their love story. It’s the perfect Parsee community setting around them, while they try to create their happily ever after along with the arguments and battles.

The movie is a one-time watch, and comes with a fresh outlook towards the love stories.

Put a magical touch of Purple in your wardrobe

There are various options in the Fashion world that you can try from time to time, and then comes a day when you’re bored of them all. However, there’s an interesting alternative that you can use to add the smartness and stylishness to your look, i.e. the color purple. It makes you elegant, classy and gives you a powerful style.

The first step of choosing the purple in your wardrobe is learning how to blend it with the other accessories and the colors, moreover, you need to decide the shades of purple you need to wear. Because there are bright colors, which don’t go well with any shade of purple, like pink, orange or red should never be combined with purple.

Besides, if you want to experiment with the brighter shades of purple then you can always look for the darker accessories and black overcoat to complement it. If you want a royal look then you can go with a black skirt/trouser with a light purple top, it will surely enhance your look. Moreover, if you’re thinking about the darker shades of purple then go for the light neutral colors like beige, cream or off-white. If you’re thinking of going to a social gathering then only combine colors like cream, beige, black, brown or white with your Purple attire, any other color is a big no no.

However, there might be a case of you not being able to choose the perfect shade of purple for yourself or you may be skeptical about the color. No problem, you can instead choose the purple accessories to stylize yourself like buttons, scares, pins, earrings etc. Also, you must always stay away from wearing a purple socks or footwear when you’re wearing a purple shirt. Going the matching way with purple isn’t a good idea, it makes you look flashy. Therefore, avoid being purple from head to toe or you’ll look everything except being stylish and smart.

Then there are the purple heels, which are extremely stylish. If worn with the right clothes, these heels will make you very attractive. These purple colored heals when paired with the right outfit bring out seduction with style. It’s actually a bold move if you’re going for the purple heel, therefore, you need to have a correct fashion sense to pull it off. However, the purple heels are surely amazing and are one of the high points in fashion.

They look perfect on your feet and alone are enough to breathe life as well as style sense in any kind of attire. They’re the perfect to make you look fashionable, and as a woman you must definitely have a pair or two purple shoes in your wardrobe.

Designer in Focus: A Doctor-turned-Jewellery Designer Preeti Jain

Preeti Jain is the founder and creator of the brand ‘Jewels by Preeti’. The Delhi based jewelry designer was a part of the recently concluded IIJW 2012. Besides being a designer, she’s also a qualified MBBS doctor and has a fellowship in Dermatology from Singapore.

She has a quite an interesting story behind her foray into the jewelry designing industry, it wasn’t as it might look and it started with the ring she designed for her mother. That ring was inscribed with ‘Jewels by Preeti’, and her mother not only loved the ring but her recognition of Preeti’s exceptional talent became her first step into this field. Therefore, it isn’t wrong to quote Preeti Jain’s thoughts about her unexpected career in the Jewellery designing. She said that while only practice makes you perfect, you do need a passion that would persuade you.

When Preeti came into this profession, she had to make a tough decision, since she was leaving the security of a well settled careerline for the risks of this upcoming field in the Indian fashion scene. However, she decided to choose her passion over the profession by getting a degree from ‘The International Gemmology institute’. Earlier she used to design for family and the friends; however, while designing the jewelry for a friend’s wedding, she saw her reaction to her work. This made her decide to take up jewelry designing as a full time career.

The road has been full of challenges for her, and there were few times when this career turned quite hectic for her, but the satisfaction of a job well done is what keeps her moving forward. She faced a few hassles in the beginning, but once her private shows are well-received by the people, then she decided to open her own jewelry studio as well in the Vasant Vihar, and has a dedicated client base in Delhi.

Preeti Jain’s collection was a highlight of the IIJW 2012; it showed a blend of contemporary as well as the traditional designs. She focused on the lightweight jewellery for the working women, and also displayed fine piece in Polki as well as the uncut diamonds in 22 and 18 kt. Her designs featured the Meenakari work, and actor Ayushmann Khurana was the show stopped for her. He sported a wonderful Mahraja Brooch with pearl chains.

It is Preeti Jain’s passion that has brought her this far into this field and her commitment to the client plus excellent understanding of the industry is what makes her a perfect idol for someone who wants to follow a road less travelled.
