Mizwan Fashion Show 2012: A plethora of Bollywood celebrities and wonderful designs

Shabana Azmi and the designer Manish Malhotra came together for a fashion event that was organized to raise funds for Shabana Azmi’s NGO in her native village Azamgarh named ‘Mizwan’. Mizwan is an NGO established by Shabana Azmi’s father and the late poet Kaifi Azmi. The event saw a plethora of Bollywood celebrities walking the ramp.

Besides, the high point of the show was Mizwan’s female having their craftsmanship displayed with the help of models and celebrities who took part in the show. The Manish Malhotra designs and the embroidery from the girls of Mizwan decorated the 2012 edition of this show.

Talking about the show, Manish Malhotra said, “The world of fashion is globalised today, and therefore, it’s trivial offering silhouettes to the west. However, we have an advantage over them i.e. Craftsmanship. This is the USP of our fashion scene, and Mijwan is an example of what India can offer to the world. It teaches us to rediscover our roots and our true designs.”

Manish Malhotra gave those embroideries by the Mizwan females, a modern contemporary touch as Shabana Azmi and Namrata Goyal opened the show while Nita Ambani walked the ramp with two little girls. The show also featured the other celebrities like Diana Penty, Mary Kom, Neha Dhupia, Imran Khan, Imtiaz Ali, Kalki Koechlin, Karan Johar, Kunal Kapoor, Malaika Arora Khan, Neha Dhupia, Parineeti Chopra, Chirag Paswan, Priyanka Chopra, Shazahn Padamsee, Sameera Reddy etc.

Later, Shabana Azmi talked to the reporters about how Manish Malhotra’s recognition of talent in Mizwan has brought it in front of the world, and helped in highlighting some of their finest creations. Moreover, she also talked about how Manish is making girls translate chikankari on the net and thus upgrading their skills to help them earn more money, which in turn has put them at par with the men in their households.
